For Labour

*  Hospital paperwork – registration card / health record or similar

*  Medicare card and / or private health insurance company card

*  Lip Balm/paw paw ointment

*  Hair bands

*  Iceblocks (if having a home birth)

*  Water bottle

*  Phone / charger / credit

*  Ipad / charger

*  Laptop / charger

*  Camera / charger

*  Video camera

*  Facewashers (if home birth)

*  Gatorade / Powerade / Lemonade

*  Snacks, drinks and spare clothes / swimmers / towel for your birthing partner – in case they want to get in the shower with you.

*  Snack food / jelly beans

*  Thongs

*  Music and some way to play it

*  Heat pack

*  Socks

*  Baggy shirts / singlets

*  Mints

*  Birth plan

*  Stress balls

*  Massage oil

*  Spare change

*  Headphones

For Mum

*  Shampoo / conditioner / shower gel / hair dryer / dry shampoo

*  Shower puff

*  Towel (if you don't want to use hospitals)

*  Cheap pack of black undies / men’s undies (Take 10 into hospital)

*  Pyjamas / nighties -  with easy access for breastfeeding (buttons)

*  Ural – will help take the sting out of your pee (if you had a natural birth)

*  Ear plugs (I never used these)

*  Hairbrush

*  Maternity bras (2 pairs)

*  Snacks / lollies / chocolate / fruit drink (poppers), muesli bars

*  Dressing gown

*  Slippers

*  Nursing pads

*  Spare change

*  Nice clothes that make you feel good, don’t dig around your waist and are easy to breastfeed in

*  Toothbrush

*  Toothpaste

*  Makeup

*  Makeup Removal Kit

*  Deodorant

*  Perfume

*  Nipple Shields

*  Nipple Balm or Lansinoh Cream

*  Razor

*  Plastic bags for dirty clothes (for you and bub)

*  Clothes (comfortable - make sure easy for breastfeeding buttoned top and the pants won't dig into your waist)

*  A book to read (maybe a breastfeeding book - I personally didn't get a chance to read a book)

*  A pen / notebook

*  Your own pillow

*  Breastfeeding pillow (if you have one)

*  Nice clothes to wear home / wear in photos (remember your tummy won't be back to normal, it will still be swollen)

*  Moisturiser

*  Posh toilet paper / flushable wipes (hospital toilet paper can be rough, post-birth)

*  Maternity pads (two packets - 14 pads, you will need these even if you have a c-section

*  Make sure the underwear is BIG “granny undies” that don’t sit on your wound

*  Big pants that don’t irritate your wound - large tracksuit pants

*  Sanitary pads

*  Comfort food – whatever makes you feel good

*  Mouthwash – if you want to freshen up your mouth but can’t get out of bed yet

*  Hair dryer to dry your wound

*  Tights that you can lift above the wound so it doesn't rub

*  Metamucil / stool softeners – your first bowel movement can be bad (I didn't find it

   bad so don't be nervous

For Caesarean Sections Specifically

For Baby

Check what your hospital provides before you pack for your baby, my hospital provided nappies, wipes, clothes and wraps while we stayed in hospital …

 

*  Nappies (our hospital supplied)

*  Singlets x 3 (my hospital supplied clothes while we were staying)

*  Beanies (I never used one)

*  Mittens (I never used one)

*  Blankets / bunny rugs (my hospital supplied while we were in hospital)

*  Nice going-home outfit for bub

*  Muslin wrap (for going-home)

*  Cotton wrap (for going-home)

*  Socks (I never used them)

*  A dummy (just in case, washed and sterilised - we did use ours)

*  Big tub of wipes (our hospital supplied wipes)

*  Grosuits x 3 (at least) – in at least two sizes! Take some 0000 clothes and some

   000 even a 00000 if you like, that way whatever size bub is they will have

   something to wear (my hospital supplied while we were staying)

Dad Hospital Bag

*  Deodrant

*  Toothbrush

*  Aftershave

*  Razer

*  Shaving Cream

*  Pj's

*  Comfortable Shoes
